Who we are
Mad Cow Comedy (“Mad Cow Comedy”, “we”, “us”, “our”) runs standup comedy shows, workshops, and masterclasses in Utrecht, the Netherlands. This website is a marketing and information site for those shows: it doesn’t have a shopping cart, doesn’t process payments, and doesn’t require you to create an account to browse it.
This policy explains what personal data this website collects, why, and what rights you have over it, in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you have any questions, contact us at info@madcowcomedy.nl or +31 6 48383799.
What this website collects
Personal data only enters the picture in a couple of specific, deliberate places on this site. Here’s every one of them:
1. The “Ticket Alerts” email signup
The “Get Ticket Alerts” form on the homepage, the Shows and Workshops pages, and individual show/workshop pages collects one thing: your email address.
We use Mailchimp, an email marketing service operated by Intuit Inc. in the United States, to manage this list and send the emails. When you submit the form:
- Mailchimp sends you a confirmation email first (double opt-in) — you’re not added to the list until you click the link in that email.
- Once confirmed, your email address is stored in our Mailchimp audience and used only to send you updates about upcoming shows and ticket availability.
- We do not track whether or when you open these emails — that feature is switched off on our account.
- You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send, which removes you from the list immediately.
Because Mailchimp is based in the United States, your email address is transferred outside the European Economic Area. Mailchimp maintains contractual safeguards for this (such as Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework) — see Mailchimp’s own privacy policy for details.
Legal basis: your consent, given when you submit the form (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)).
2. Contacting us directly
The “Reach Out for More Information” buttons on our pages, and the email/phone links in the site footer, don’t submit anything to this website — they simply open your own email app or phone dialer, addressed to us. Any information you choose to send that way goes directly to our inbox or phone, the same as any other email or call, and is never collected or stored by the website itself.
3. Buying tickets
This website does not sell tickets directly. Every “Get tickets” link takes you to a third-party ticketing provider (such as Weeztix, or the specific ticket link supplied for that show) to complete your purchase there. Any payment or personal data you provide during that purchase is collected and processed by that ticketing provider under its own privacy policy — we’d recommend reading it before you buy. We don’t receive, process, or store your payment details, and we don’t automatically find out who bought a ticket to a given show.
4. Google reviews widget
Our homepage displays a widget showing our public Google reviews, powered by Trustindex. This widget loads content directly from Trustindex’s servers into your browser, which may set its own cookies or collect anonymous usage data under Trustindex’s own privacy policy. The reviews it shows are ones people have already chosen to post publicly on Google; the widget just re-displays them.
What this website does not do
To be equally clear about what we don’t do with your data:
- We don’t run Google Analytics, Meta/Facebook Pixel, or any other advertising or analytics tracker on this site.
- Comments are switched off across the entire site, so no comment forms collect your name, email, or IP address anywhere.
- There’s no visitor account system — you can’t register, log in, or build a profile on this site.
- We don’t sell, rent, or share your personal data with anyone beyond the two services named above (Mailchimp and Trustindex).
Where our show listings come from
The comedians, show times, venues, and images on our Shows and Workshops pages are pulled automatically from Confirmed.show, the platform we use to manage our listings. That’s show data, not personal data about you as a visitor — nothing about your visit to this website is sent to Confirmed.show.
Cookies
This section is short because we don’t use cookies for advertising or to track you across other websites. In practice:
- If you’re a logged-in staff member, WordPress sets standard login/session cookies so you can use the admin area. Visitors browsing the public site are not logged in and don’t get these.
- The Ticket Alerts signup form doesn’t set any cookie of its own. The Google reviews widget loads a script directly from Trustindex’s servers (cdn.trustindex.io), which may set its own cookies to make the widget work — see our Cookie Policy for the full breakdown.
How long we keep your data
- Ticket Alerts subscribers: for as long as you stay subscribed, until you unsubscribe.
- Emails or calls you send us directly: kept as long as reasonably needed to handle your enquiry, then deleted in the normal course of housekeeping.
- Ticket purchases: we don’t hold any data here at all, since those transactions happen entirely with the third-party ticketing provider.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Ask us to delete your data
- Restrict or object to how we use it
- Receive your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time — for example, by unsubscribing from Ticket Alerts
To exercise any of these, email info@madcowcomedy.nl. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) at autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.
Children’s privacy
Our shows and this website are intended for adult audiences, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the website or the services it uses change. The version published here always reflects our current practices.
